Drug Payment Scheme

The Drugs Payment Scheme (DPS) in Ireland helps individuals and families manage the cost of medicines by capping monthly spending on approved prescription drugs and certain medical items. Under the scheme, you pay no more than €80 per month per household, regardless of income, and any additional eligible costs within that month are covered. It is available to anyone ordinarily resident in Ireland who does not have a medical card, and it ensures that essential medicines remain affordable for all.

Free HRT Scheme

The Free HRT Scheme in Ireland provides access to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) at no cost for women experiencing menopause symptoms. Under the scheme, approved HRT medications are free of charge once prescribed by your GP, though a small dispensing fee may apply at the pharmacy. Available to women ordinarily resident in Ireland, the scheme aims to improve access to treatment and support women’s health during menopause.

Contraceptive Scheme

In Ireland, the Contraceptive Scheme is a government initiative that provides free access to a wide range of contraception for women, girls, and people with a uterus aged 17 to 35 (with plans to expand eligibility over time). Introduced by the Health Service Executive (HSE), the scheme covers GP visits, prescriptions, and contraceptive options such as the pill, patches, injections, implants, and intrauterine devices (IUDs). Its aim is to reduce financial barriers, support reproductive health, and give individuals greater choice and control over their contraception.

Supporting our Community

Gaelic Athletic Association clubs are at the heart of many Irish communities, and support from local businesses makes a real difference. O'Connell's Pharmacy shows that commitment through its sponsorship, helping provide resources, kits, and opportunities for players of all ages.

By backing their local GAA club, they’re not just supporting sport—they’re investing in community spirit, teamwork, and the wellbeing of the area.
